ABOUT MARIE

Marie Baird is an emerging Scottish contemporary artist originally from Airdrie, Lanarkshire. Having lived and worked in the Far East and Europe, she now lives in Norfolk, England with her husband John.

After successful careers in both the Public and the Private Sectors, an opportunity in 2015, allowed her to rekindle her love for painting that life and family commitments had put on the back burner for over 40 years.

In 2018, she completed her Diploma in Art through the Norfolk Painting School under the tutorage of Course Director and award-winning artist and writer Martin Kinnear, one of Britain’s leading contemporary painters.

In 2019, she was delighted and honoured to have an original painting selected by the ‘Institute of East Anglian Artists’ (IEAA) for their 2019 Summer Exhibition. The painting, ‘Bright New Day’, oil on canvas, from her series of flower paintings ‘When Words Are Not Enough’, was exhibited at The Gallery Holt – Art Gallery located in Holt, Norfolk the perfect platform to showcase her work.

“I am never happier than when I have brush in hand, loaded with oils, and a support (be it canvas or panel) before me… the anticipation is so incredibly exciting”.

“As music is the poetry of sound, so painting is the poetry of sight.” –  James McNeill Whistler
